Buddy Holly: Not Fade Away
(The Real Buddy Holly Story)
ALL HOLLY HITS from the original cast of History Theatre’s Production of
“Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story”
IVEY-Award winning music from the critically acclaimed production (Three Runs, ALL Sold-Out), music endorsed by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison of the Crickets as “…the best and most honest we’ve ever heard…” (there’s a story there…)
This show tells a bit of rock and roll history in reverse, from Gene Pitney (who wrote “Rubber Ball” for Bobby Vee. BIG story there…) and Sonny Curtis (Buddy’s guitarist and a great tunesmith in his own rite), to Bobby Vee (Bobby took Holly’s place at the Moorhead, MN concert after Buddy’s fatal plane crash on February 3rd, 1959).
Set I (40 minutes):
Songs include: “Town Without Pity”, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, “Only Love Can Break a Heart”, “Hello Mary Lou” (written by Mr. Pitney), “Rubber Ball” (also penned by Gene Pitney exclusively for Bobby Vee).
From Sonny Curtis (co-writer “That’ll Be the Day”):
”I Fought the Law” (Bobby Fuller Four), “Walk Right Back” (The Everly Brothers), “Love Is All Around” (Mary Tyler Moore theme song)
Finally to Bobby Vee:
“Come Back When You Grow Up, Girl”, “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes”, “Suzie Baby” (Bobby’s first hit, sounding eerily like Buddy Holly…).
Set II (45 minutes):
ALL HOLLY HITS, featuring Nick Freeman as Buddy, Blake Foster (guitar) as Sonny Curtis, Zach Spicer (drums) as Jerry Allison, and Mitch Benson (bass) as Joe Mauldin.
Playlist includes “That’ll Be the Day”, “Rave On”, “EveryDay”, “Heartbeat”, “Raining In My Heart”, “Oh Boy”, “Peggy Sue”, “Maybe Baby”, “True Love Ways”, “Words of Love”, “Not Fade Away”.
